The U.S. indoor season runs from December to early March, when the national championships are held. Conference championships are generally held 2 weeks before Nationals, but do not qualify for the latter.

 

Selection procedure for national championships:

To qualify for the US indoor national championships, you have to be among the top 16 student athletes in your division. For relays, the top 12 teams are selected.

Dates, locations and results of the 2024 Nationals by division:

NAIA: February 29 – March 2 – Brookings, South Dakota

NJCAA: March 1-2 – Gainesville, Florida

NCAA D1: March 7-9 – Boston, Massachusetts

NCAA D2: March 8-9 – Pittsburg, Kansas

The disciplines contested at the national championships are: 60 metres, 200 metres, 400 metres, 800 metres, Mile, 3000 metres, 5000 metres, 60 Hurdles, 4×400 relay, Distance Medley Relay (DMR)*, High Jump, Pole Vault, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put, Weight Throw, Heptathlon (men) and Pentathlon (women).

* The Distance Medley Relay (DMR) is a very popular relay in the US where, unlike classic relays, the athletes don’t run the same distance. DMR distances are 1200m, 400m, 800m and 1600m, for a total of 4000m.

The NAIA National Championships were held in Brookings, South Dakota from February 29 to March 2.

Sacha Gangloff (Keiser University): 8th in the long jump with 7m17 and 26th in the 60m hurdles in 8″38

The NJCAA National Championships were held in Gainesville, Florida on March 1st and 2nd.

Mouhameth Fall (South Plains College): Bronze medallist in the triple jump with 15m19

Waly Bathily (South Plains College): Silver medallist in 4x400m relay and bronze medallist in DMR relay

Noah Lawson (South Plains College): Silver medallist in 4x400m relay; 30th in 60m in 6″92 and 31st in 200m in 21″94

Sydney Roquebrun (South Plains College): 8th in the long jump with 5m63

Daphné Kausz (New Mexico Junior College): Silver medallist in 4x800m relay in 9’15″67 and 12th in 800m in 2’22″43

Cyprien Bille: 8th in 10’07″92 on the DMR relay and 23rd over 1000m in 2’34″53

Mathéo Guimené (Colby Community College): 15th in the 5000m in 15’04″42 and 24th in the mile in 4’19″59

Maïssane Jouen (Colby Community College): 5th in 12’05″91 on the DMR relay and 28th in 3’14″62 over 1000m

Emile Gaubert (Highland Community College): 28th in 1’57″62 over 800m

Felix Petit-Belleville (Indian Hills Community College): 5th in 7’38″26 on the 4x800m relay

The NCAA D1 Championships will be held in Boston, Massachusetts from March 7 to 9.

The level was very high, and two of the team’s athletes managed to qualify. They are

  • Daniela Wamokpego (University of IOWA): triple jump

  • Clément Ducos (University of Tennessee): 4x400m relay

The NCAA D2 “Nationals” will be held in Pittsburg, Kansas on March 8 and 9. We’ll be following 10 of the team’s athletes:

  • Melanie Roland: 400m

  • Elise Leveel: 5000m

  • Flore Gracia: triple jump

  • Kalkidan Vincendeau : DMR

  • Maxime Touron: 800m

  • Titouan Le Grix: Mile / DMR

  • Ricardo Barbosa: 3000m

  • Soheil Boufrizi: 3000m

  • Romain Legendre: 5000m

  • Maxime Wassmer: 4x400m
